5/8/2017 0 Comments Summer Reads: RecommendationsWith the summer quickly approaching! I figured that most of you will hopefully be having a little bit more of down time! So with that being said I thought that maybe some of you will be spending your time sitting by the beach or pool and reading a book (or in bed, escaping the world)! I also thought, that I would share some fun, light and crazy book recommendations! Now just to put this out there, I'm not really good at describing books! So, I will write the "blurb" about the book and let you know my thoughts! ![]() Yes Please! by Amy Poehler "In a perfect world...We'd get to hang out with Amy Poehler, watching dumb movies, listening to music, and swapping tales about our coworkers and difficult childhoods. Because in a perfect world, we'd all be friends with Amy - someone who seems so fun, is full of inserting stories, tells great jokes, and offers plenty of advice and wisdom (the useful kind, not the annoying kind you don't ask for , anyway). Unfortunately, between her Golden Globe-winning role on Parks and Recreations, work as a producer and director, place as one of the most beloved SNL alumni and co-founder of the Upright Citizens Brigad, involvement with the website Smart Girls at the Party, frequent turns as acting double for Meryl Streep, and the other gig as the mom of two young sons, shes not available for movie night. Luckily we have the next best thing: Yes Please, Amy's hilarious and candid book. A collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, lists, and haiku from the mind of one of our most beloved entertainers, Yes Please offers Amy's thoughts on everything from her "too safe" childhood outside of Boston to her early days in New York City, her ideas about Hollywood and "the biz", the demon that looks back at all of us in the mirror, and her joy at being told she has a "face for wigs". Yes Please is chockfull of words and wisdom to live by." To sum up all of that in one word it would be, "HILARIOUS!!!". This book is SO funny!! As I was reading the book I could hear Amy's voice in my head (no I didn't listen to in on Audible or anything!). The way that Amy shares her stories is so unique, in a way that when she is telling a serious story she always seemed to make it a little fun and light. As you read more of this post you will see that I do tent to enjoy memoirs and books about people more then other kinds of books! ![]() Bloom: Navigating Life and Style by Estee Lalonde "In Bloom, Estee Lalonde shares the moments, people, and thingsthat have made her who she is today. She reveals her life lessonsand offers her tips for surviving life and finding yourself." I have been watching Estee Lalnode for a long time on YouTube! Her life story, her style and her demeanor is amazing! You guys should really go check her videos out and read her book! Bloom, is graced with such beautiful pictures! You can tell just from the texture of the softcover book to the sides of the pages being different colors to indicate the chapters, that Estee really put thought into every detail of her book! I highly recommend Bloom if you would like to read about someones raw real life stories! ![]() My (not so) Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella "Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud. Then, just as she’s finding her feet—not to mention a possible new romance—the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family’s farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away—until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest. Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie’s future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life. Sophie Kinsella is celebrated for her vibrant, relatable characters and her great storytelling gifts. Now she returns with all of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that are the hallmarks of her bestsellers to spin this fresh, modern story about presenting the perfect life when the reality is far from the truth" Oh my G-d!!!! They NEED to make this book into a movie!!! I couldn't stop reading this book!!! It was so much fun to read! Every time I turned the page I had no idea what was going to happen next! This book is just so fun (which I've already said), you just have to read it for yourself! ![]() We'll Always Have Paris by Jennifer Corburn "Jennifer Coburn has always been terrified of dying young. So she decides to save up and drop everything to travel with her daughter, Katie, on a whirlwind European adventure before it's too late. Even though her husband can't join them, even though she's nervous about the journey, and even though she's perfectly healthy, Jennifer is determined to jam her daughter's mental photo album with memories—just in case. From the cafés of Paris to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Jennifer and Katie take on Europe one city at a time, united by their desire to see the world and spend precious time together. In this heartwarming generational love story, Jennifer reveals how their adventures helped vanquish her fear of dying...for the sake of living." You know how books can "take" you to a whole different world?! Well, Jennifer Corburn took me all the way to Paris, France with her and her daughter, Katie! After I read this book it totally made me want to jump on a plane and fly to a different country! The way Corburn wrote We'll Always Have Paris made me feel like I was walking with Jennifer and Katie through Paris and and tagging along on all of their adventures! If you are looking for a little escape to Paris, then I highly recommend this book! ![]() Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty "A murder...A tragic accident...Or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead. Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years. These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place. Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the little lies that can turn lethal." Yes! OK! I read this book because I saw the trailer for the HBO Series of Big Little Lies! But, I must say, I really did enjoy the book! I do have to say that I enjoy the book more then the show, because I fell a sleep in the first 15 minutes. Like Stephen King said on the cover it's "Funny and scary." But, not the kind of scary you might be thinking about! I guess you'll just have to read it a find out more! Well those are some of the books that I thought would be good for an easy, fun read! If you have read any of these books or you might have any recommendations yourself that you would like to share with me, then please leave a comment! I would love to hear what you are reading!
I hope you enjoyed! Have a wonderful day! Elisheva
